[Seoul District News] Jongno-gu, Songpa-gu, Gwangjin-gu, Seongbuk-gu and Other Districts Spring Cleaning... Yangcheon-gu Installs 16 LED Logo Projectors on Safe Walking Paths in 5 Parks
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jongno-gu will carry out a large-scale “New Spring Cleaning” on the 23rd, where the public and private sectors work together to thoroughly clean every corner of the district to welcome spring after a long winter.
The district plans to wash away fine dust accumulated on public facilities and calcium chloride left on roads during winter, and residents and merchants will take the initiative to clean in front of their homes and stores in alleys and other areas.
To this end, a total of eight cleaning vehicles, including three water trucks, will be deployed to thoroughly wash the roads, and residents will participate in sweeping the floors in front of their homes and stores.
Additionally, employees and residents at 17 community centers will gather to remove cigarette butts and collect illegally dumped waste around street trees and green areas.
Especially, a “District Pilot Cleaning Event” will be held from 2 p.m. in the Nakwon-dong area, the pilot cleaning section for the day. Members of the autonomous cleaning organization will gather at Exit 6 of Jongno 3-ga Station and clean together a section of about 480 meters, including Songhae-gil and Nakwon Arcade.
Along with this, Jongno-gu is promoting the “Cleaning in Front of My Home and Store Project” until April 29 to create a clean community, recruiting cleaning organizations voluntarily formed by residents.
This project is expected to solve habitual illegal dumping in narrow roads and alleys densely populated with houses and shops through private-led efforts, even during hours when sanitation workers are not on duty.
Any company, apartment complex, merchant association, professional group, or general resident wishing to apply for an autonomous cleaning organization can do so. For more details, visit the district office website or contact the cleaning operation team.
A district official said, “We hold the New Spring Cleaning every year with the aim of providing residents with a pleasant living environment and moving toward an eco-friendly and clean Jongno.” He added, “We ask for active participation in this cleaning event that contributes to preventing the spread of COVID-19 and makes every corner of the district clean.”
Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) is conducting a “New Spring Special Cleaning” until March 31 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and remove fine dust and grime in celebration of spring.
Until now, alley cleaning has been carried out with residents through community center professional groups and autonomous alley cleaning organizations, but considering the COVID-19 situation, this year’s cleaning will focus on road cleaning vehicles.
First, a total of cleaning vehicles including six water trucks, eight dust suction trucks, and seven street surface cleaning trucks will be mobilized to clean the roads and make every effort to remove fine dust.
Along with this, various facilities such as bus stops, subway entrances, taxi stands, and information signs will be washed to remove dust accumulated during winter.
In particular, March 23 has been designated as “New Spring Cleaning Day,” when the district office and each community center will carry out large-scale cleaning activities.
For this, the district has selected the section from Sports Complex Station to Jamsilsaenae Station as the pilot area for New Spring Cleaning Day, where residents of Jamsilbon-dong and Jamsil 2-dong, along with sanitation workers, will participate to tidy up sidewalks and back alleys.
Participants will handle illegally dumped trash around Jamsilsaenae Station and bus stops, clean sidewalks in vulnerable areas such as Saemaeul Market, and remove attachments on utility poles along sidewalks.
Moreover, the remaining 25 community centers outside the pilot area will also conduct cleaning. Residents, professional groups, Alley Tiger Seniors, and autonomous alley cleaning teams will work together focusing on habitual illegal dumping areas, school surroundings, parks, and other vulnerable cleaning areas in each neighborhood.
In addition, starting with the New Spring Cleaning event, the district plans to designate the fourth Wednesday of every month as Clean Day to encourage residents’ voluntary cleaning.
Songpa-gu Mayor Park Seong-su said, “With many residents participating, we will remove the grime accumulated over winter to create a pleasant urban environment and provide vitality to residents exhausted by COVID-19.”
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) has designated March 16 to 31 as “New Spring Cleaning Week” and will carry out special cleaning and environmental maintenance.
“New Spring Cleaning Week” was launched to remove calcium chloride, fine dust, and trash accumulated on roads due to snow removal during winter and to welcome a clean and pleasant spring.
During the cleaning week, Gwangjin-gu will conduct water and dust cleaning on side roads such as Mat-ui Street, arterial roads, focused management roads, and around bus stops. To this end, a total of 13 cleaning vehicles will be mobilized: four water trucks, five dust suction trucks, and four street surface cleaning trucks.
In particular, March 23 has been designated as “New Spring Cleaning Day,” and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on that day, employees of 15 community centers, private organizations, and residents will participate in large-scale environmental maintenance work.
Participants will encourage voluntary participation of residents to clean in front of their homes and businesses, focusing on areas such as major subway stations like Gangbyeon Station, multi-use places like Dongseoul Terminal and Rodeo Street, food alleys, and habitual illegal dumping areas in each neighborhood.
Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the “New Spring Cleaning Day,” participants will form small groups and follow quarantine rules while cleaning.
Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, “I hope residents exhausted by COVID-19 can enjoy a cleaner environment and clear spring skies through this spring cleaning,” adding, “I wish Gwangjin-gu to become more vibrant with the fresh spring.”
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Jeongneung 1-dong Village Safety Council (Chairman Shin Dong-chan) conducted a New Spring environmental cleanup activity on the 17th to create a clean neighborhood in the Jeongneung 1-dong area.
During the activity, members of the Jeongneung 1-dong Village Safety Council were divided into two groups to collect trash discarded on the streets, focusing on places frequently used by residents such as Maehwa Children’s Park and Jeongneung Station. They also promoted the prohibition of illegal dumping and proper trash disposal methods, working hard to create a pleasant environment for Jeongneung 1-dong residents.
Shin Dong-chan, chairman of the Jeongneung 1-dong Village Safety Council, said, “I thank the members of the Village Safety Council who worked hard to create a clean neighborhood.” He added, “We will continue to take the lead in making our neighborhood clean and safe with our own hands.”
A representative from Jeongneung 1-dong Community Center who participated said, “We appreciate the Village Safety Council’s active participation despite their busy schedules, and we will actively support spreading a culture where residents can voluntarily and actively participate in creating a clean neighborhood through this activity.”
Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young) announced that it has installed 16 LED logo projectors, crime prevention facilities, around walking trails in five parks in Mok 2-dong and Sinwol 6-dong so that residents can safely stroll in the parks even at night.
This project was planned to create a park environment where anyone can walk safely by protecting socially vulnerable groups through eliminating crime blind spots.
With a resident participation budget of 32 million won, LED logo projectors were installed in four parks in Mok 2-dong (Yongwangsan, Mokdong, Dalmaeul, Eoullim Rest Area) and a small park in Sinwol 6-dong.
The installed logo projectors are a type of beam projector that displays specific phrases and images on walls, floors, or other desired locations. They turn on and off in conjunction with park lights after sunset, adding safety and a refreshing atmosphere to the parks.
The logo projectors project four phrases and images for 10 seconds each on the ground at points with high foot traffic in the parks: ▲Park usage rules ▲COVID-19 prevention guidelines ▲Etiquette for pets in public places ▲Resident encouragement and emotional messages.
The district expects that the logo projectors, which also provide bright lighting effects, will greatly contribute to creating a safe and pleasant park environment.
