Gyeongbok University, Line 4 Jinjeop Extension Opens on the 19th... Anticipating a New Leap Forward
[Asia Economy (Namyangju) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kyungbok University has laid the foundation for a new leap forward with the opening of the Jinjeop Line extension.
Kyungbok University announced on the 21st that the Jinjeop Line, an extension of Seoul Subway Line 4 to Namyangju, officially opened on the 19th.
Kyungbok University expects that the opening of Line 4 will dramatically improve students' use of public transportation for commuting to and from school. In particular, the significant reduction in students' commuting time is expected to not only enhance satisfaction with university life but also positively impact the recruitment of outstanding new students amid a sharp decline in admissions.
A Kyungbok University official explained, "Although we operated 43 free shuttle buses in key areas of the Seoul metropolitan area, students still experienced inconveniences commuting. We expect that the opening of Subway Line 4 will greatly shorten students' commuting times."
The Jinjeop Line extension connects Dangogae Station to Namyangju Byeollae, Onam, and Jinjeop, covering a distance of 14.9 km. A total of 1.4 trillion won was invested in the project.
Three new stations?Byeollae Byeolgaram, Onam, and Jinjeop?were established along this section.
Construction of the Jinjeop Line began in December 2014. Although the target opening was 2020, the opening was delayed due to an explosion accident at the construction site and disagreements regarding the installation areas for track management and maintenance facilities.
Seoul Metro proceeded with the scheduled opening on this day as no major issues were found during system and facility test runs prior to the official opening.
