Dongdaemun-gu Accepts Resident Participation Budget Projects for 2023 Budget Planning Until April 20... Total Scale of 1 Billion KRW, Applications per Project Allowed from 5 Million to 50 Million KRW
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yu Deok-yeol) is operating the "2022 Dongdaemun-gu Resident Participatory Budget" to encourage proactive resident participation in district administration and to ensure transparency and representativeness in financial management.
This year's resident participatory budget, which will be reflected in the 2023 budget proposal, amounts to a total of 1 billion KRW, with project funding available from a minimum of 5 million KRW to a maximum of 50 million KRW per project.
Eligible proposals include small-scale, community-based projects prioritized for regional development and welfare improvement. Any resident, or employees and students of companies, organizations, or schools located in the district, can submit proposals.
The application submission period is from March 21 to April 20. Residents wishing to propose projects can visit the 8th floor of Dongdaemun-gu Office's Autonomous Administration Division or any of the 14 community service centers in person, or submit by mail (Dongdaemun-gu, Cheonho-daero 145, 8th floor Autonomous Administration Division).
Applications can also be submitted through the Dongdaemun-gu Office website under Administrative Information (Budget & Settlement → Resident Participatory Budget System → Resident Participatory Budget Project Application).
After reviewing the submitted project proposals by the relevant departments, the district will collect residents' opinions through mobile (internet) voting from June 15 to June 30.
Subsequently, the final selection of resident participatory budget projects will be made by combining the results of the Resident Participatory Budget Committee review (60%) and the mobile voting (40%).
Notably, starting this year, a new voting window will be established to prevent duplicate mobile (internet) voting, and new members representing socially disadvantaged groups will be recruited to ensure representativeness in the Resident Participatory Budget Committee.
Yu Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "We look forward to the active participation of residents who have interest and affection for the community," and added, "We will continue to lead the revitalization of the local community and the realization of fiscal democracy through the resident participatory budget system."
