[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] In Quanzhou, Fujian Province, China, more than 470 new COVID-19 infections were reported over two days, prompting health authorities to conduct nucleic acid (PCR) testing for all residents.
According to People's Daily on the 19th, Chinese health authorities have been conducting nucleic acid tests on 8.78 million residents of Quanzhou City, Fujian Province, since the previous day. As of the 18th, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Quanzhou reached 689.
Health authorities have suspended offline classes in schools within Quanzhou and temporarily halted operations of cultural facilities, hotels, and other lodging establishments. Additionally, the number of high- and medium-risk areas has been expanded to 13, and lockdown-style management has been implemented. In areas under lockdown, residents are generally prohibited from going out, with only one person per household allowed to leave every 2 to 3 days to purchase groceries and daily necessities.
