Changwon City Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Firefighter Statue Commemorating 1st Anniversary of Volunteer Fire Brigade Day

A statue unveiling ceremony for firefighters was held at the Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam to commemorate Volunteer Firefighter Day.

Volunteer Firefighter Day is on March 19th and was established last year to strengthen the identity of the volunteer firefighter corps, a civilian volunteer organization formed by local residents who wish to assist fire station duties, and to boost their pride and morale.
The unveiling ceremony was organized to reflect on the volunteer firefighters' spirit of service and sacrifice. About 80 people, including Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu, city council members, the fire headquarters chief, and volunteer firefighters, attended. The event proceeded with a progress report, unveiling ceremony, and commemorative photo session.
The firefighter statue, donated by the Changwon Volunteer Firefighter Association, is made of brass and measures 1.2m in width, 1.2m in length, and 1.7m in height.
The Changwon Volunteer Firefighter Corps is composed of residents living in the area, with 1,650 members across 52 units in towns, townships, and neighborhoods, assisting in various disaster sites with fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.
