Mokpo City Implements Flexible Operation in Response to Surge in Demand for Cremation Facilities
Temporary Suspension of Exhumed Remains Cremation Until the 15th of Next Month
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Seunghyun] Mokpo City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 17th that it will temporarily suspend the cremation of exhumed (reburied) remains until the 15th of next month to ensure smooth operation due to the surge in demand for cremation facilities.
This measure is being implemented simultaneously at 60 cremation facilities nationwide to alleviate inconveniences caused by the sharp increase in deaths from COVID-19 and seasonal changes. The temporary suspension of exhumed remains cremation may be extended depending on the nationwide increase in deaths.
Additionally, the city will increase the number of cremation reservation slots from 7 to 8 times per day to resolve the inconvenience caused by prolonged funerals for Mokpo citizens and residents of neighboring local governments.
Starting from the 20th, reservations for the morning sessions (up to the 5th session) will be accepted only from Mokpo citizens and nearby residents to prioritize local cremation demand.
