Arnold Schwarzenegger to Putin: "Stop the Illegal War"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Governor of California, USA, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the 17th (local time) to stop the attack on Ukraine.
In a 9-minute video posted on Twitter that day, former Governor Schwarzenegger spoke about the Ukraine situation, saying, "I must tell the truth because I love the Russian people."
He said, "The Russian government is lying to the Russian people that this war is a 'special operation' to de-Nazify Ukraine," adding, "But it was neither Ukraine, nor the Nazis, nor extremists who started the war. This is not the war of the Russian people."
Especially addressing Russian soldiers, he raised his voice, saying, "Your lives, limbs, and futures are being sacrificed for a meaningless war," and "This war is not the war your grandfathers or great-grandfathers fought to protect the country; it is an illegal war."
Former Governor Schwarzenegger told President Putin, "Why are you sacrificing these young people for your ambitions?" and "You started and are leading this war, so you are also the one who can end it."
To Russians protesting against the war, he said, "The world has seen your bravery," and "I know you are suffering because of your courage. You are my new heroes."
