Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member Park Seon-jun Emphasizes Urgent Need for School Hazardous Substance Countermeasures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Park Seon-jun, Jeonnam Provincial Council member (Democratic Party·Goheung 2), who proposed the 'Jeollanam-do Office of Education School Hazardous Substance Prevention and Management Ordinance,' passed the Education Committee review on the 16th.
This ordinance stipulates necessary matters for the prevention and safety management of hazardous substances in schools, aiming to guarantee educational activities and protect the health of students and faculty by preparing and promoting necessary policies.
Council member Park Seon-jun stated, “Recently, school teaching materials containing large amounts of toxic substances such as lead and cadmium have been indiscriminately purchased and used, raising parental concerns about improvements. However, this issue has not been taken seriously, making it urgent to establish measures so that students can study in a safer and healthier environment.”
He continued, “Damage caused by hazardous substances is often not recognized as a serious problem because it is not immediately visible,” adding, “The accumulated damage can cause greater problems for students.”
Furthermore, he said, “If the possibility of hazardous substances occurring is confirmed through continuous monitoring and inspection, a special inspection should be requested from the Superintendent of Education for detailed management and inspection,” emphasizing, “The Office of Education must prepare special measures as a guardian protecting student health.”
