[2022 Local Election] Goheung County Governor Suitability, Gong Young-min 43.3%·Song Gwi-geun 39.3%·Park Jin-kwon 10.3%
A Close Contest Within the Margin of Error... Gong Yeong-min Leads Beyond the Margin in the Virtual Quantum Match

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] In the suitability survey for the governor of Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, ahead of the nationwide local elections to be held on June 1, former Jeju Development Institute Director Gong Young-min was found to be ahead of current Goheung-gun Governor Song Gwi-geun within the margin of error (±4.4%p).
According to the results of a survey conducted by Daily Research on the 14th and 15th among 501 men and women aged 18 or older residing in Goheung-gun, commissioned by Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters on the 16th, the suitability for governor was 43.3% for former Director Gong, 39.3% for Governor Song, 10.3% for Jeollanam-do Councilor Park Jin-kwon, 1.2% for other candidates, 1.5% for no suitable candidate, and 4.4% for unsure.
By age group, former Director Gong showed strength among those aged 18-29 (50.3%), in their 30s (43.6%), and 50s (49.2%), while Governor Song scored higher among those in their 40s (39.4%) and 60 and older (44.4%).
By region, in electoral district A (Goheung-eup, Jeomam-myeon, Yeongnam-myeon, Duwon-myeon), Governor Song had 43.1%, former Director Gong 34.2%, and Councilor Park 15.5%. In electoral district B (Gwaryeok-myeon, Namyang-myeon, Donggang-myeon, Daeseo-myeon), Governor Song had 58.8%, former Director Gong 26.6%, and Councilor Park 11.8%.
In electoral district C (Doyang-eup, Pungyang-myeon, Dodeok-myeon, Geumsan-myeon), Governor Song had 30.5%, former Director Gong 53.4%, and Councilor Park 7.9%. In electoral district D (Dohwa-myeon, Podu-myeon, Bongrae-myeon, Dongil-myeon), Governor Song had 31%, former Director Gong 55.2%, and Councilor Park 5%.
Regarding who is most suitable as the Democratic Party candidate, former Director Gong led Councilor Park (25.8%) significantly outside the margin of error with 50.8%.
In a hypothetical matchup between Governor Song and former Director Gong, former Director Gong led with 51.2% to Governor Song’s 39.5%, showing an 11.7%p difference outside the margin of error.
Conversely, in a hypothetical matchup between Governor Song and Councilor Park, Governor Song led with 41.2% to Park’s 28.4%, ahead outside the margin of error.
In this local election, the most important factor for residents in choosing a candidate was regional development pledges (37.5%), followed by integrity and responsibility (26.5%), administrative capability (20.7%), harmony and unity (9.2%), others (3.8%), and unsure (2.3%).
Regarding Governor Song’s administration, 56.2% gave a positive evaluation, 37% negative, and 6.8% were unsure.

This survey was conducted via wired and wireless ARS telephone surveys, with 92% mobile phone virtual numbers provided by telecom companies and 8% wired phone RDD. The final response rate was 11.9%, with a sampling error of ±4.4%p at a 95% confidence level. Weighting was applied by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of February 2022 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting).
