Jeju Motorboat Drifting Due to Engine Failure Rescued at Sea
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeongpil] A motorboat adrift while returning after fishing near Dumo-ri, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si, was rescued by the Jeju Coast Guard.
According to the Jeju Maritime Police Station on the 15th, a report was received the previous day at 1:44 PM about motorboat A, a 2.41-ton vessel with one crew member on board, unable to start its engine 600 meters northwest of Dumo Port, Hangyeong-myeon, Jeju-si.
Upon receiving the report, the Jeju Coast Guard urgently dispatched a coastal rescue boat from Hallim Police Substation and arrived at the scene at 1:59 PM.
They found motorboat A drifting closer to the Sinchang offshore wind turbine and promptly connected a tow line, towing it for 30 minutes before safely mooring it at Sinchang Port.
A Jeju Coast Guard official said, “It could have led to a major accident, but thanks to the quick response, the rescue was carried out swiftly without any casualties or property damage. We urge all to conduct self-checks on fuel, batteries, and other equipment before departure and to wear life jackets while engaging in leisure activities to ensure safety.”
