Completion of Cultural Heritage Excavation at 2nd Anmin Tunnel... Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu, "Focusing All Administrative Support and Efforts for Completion by March Next Year"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] Changwon City in Gyeongnam Province has decided to devote all its efforts to open the long-awaited Second Anmin Tunnel as originally planned in March next year.
On the 15th, Changwon City announced that the excavation survey for the entire cultural heritage section (Districts 1 to 6) has been completed as a result of actively providing administrative support regarding artifacts discovered during the construction process.
The city had initially considered an early opening in December last year, but after a large number of 4th to 5th century Three Kingdoms period artifacts were found at the construction site last year, voices from the local community suggested that a delay in completion was inevitable.
Regarding the shell mound area in District 4, the Cultural Heritage Administration responded that preservation measures must be taken; however, the city explained that since this section is not part of the road where vehicles run, it does not hinder the resumption of construction.
The construction of the Second Anmin Tunnel, connecting Seongju-dong in Seongsan-gu and Jaeun-dong in Jinhae-gu, is a project to open a total length of 3.8 km road including a 1.96 km tunnel section, with a width of 20 meters (4 lanes). The current progress rate is about 70%. The city is in charge of compensation work, and the Busan Regional Land Management Office is responsible for construction.
The city emphasized the urgency of constructing the Second Anmin Tunnel due to the overcapacity of traffic on the existing Anmin Tunnel on National Road No. 25, and expects that the road opening will also help facilitate smooth transportation of industrial cargo between the National Industrial Complex and Busan New Port.
