Jeonju City "Bring recyclables, get toilet paper and volume-based waste bags in exchange!"
From the 21st of this month, 35 Community Service Centers to Implement 'Recyclables⇔Item Exchange Program'
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 15th that starting from the 21st, it will implement a ‘Recyclable Items⇔Goods Exchange Program’ at 35 neighborhood community centers to promote the separation and disposal of recyclables in daily life and prevent environmental pollution.
The recyclable items eligible for exchange have increased from the existing three types?paper packs, used batteries, and ice packs?to four types this year with the addition of eco-friendly plaques.
For paper packs, after rinsing with water, unfolding, and drying, submit them bundled by size as follows: △200㎖ 20 sheets △500㎖ 10 sheets △1000㎖ 5 sheets to the neighborhood community center to exchange for one roll of eco-friendly toilet paper.
Paper packs are packaging materials made from natural pulp, which is mainly imported, so they must be separated from general paper waste for disposal.
Used batteries can be exchanged for one roll of eco-friendly toilet paper per 15 batteries regardless of weight or size, and clean gel-type ice packs can be exchanged for one 10ℓ volume-based waste bag per 5 packs.
Used batteries contain heavy metals that pollute soil and groundwater, so they must be disposed of separately. For water-type ice packs, tear open the bag, discard the water, and recycle the bag separately.
Eco-friendly plaques included in this year’s exchange items are plaques made from recyclable resources such as waste paper, waste metal, waste plastic, and waste wood according to Article 2, Clause 9 of the ‘Resource Recycling Act.’ Collecting two plaques can be exchanged for one 10L volume-based waste bag.
The recyclable items goods exchange program will continue until all eco-friendly toilet paper and volume-based waste bags are exhausted.
Jeonju City has been expanding the recyclable items goods exchange program every year by increasing the exchange items and budget since starting the paper pack exchange program in 2019.
Last year, through the exchange program, △234,661 paper packs △178,101 batteries △48,650 ice packs were collected. This represents an increase of about 298% for paper packs and about 119% for batteries compared to 2020.
