Ulsan Office of Education Secures 11.3 Billion KRW in Special Grants from Ministry of Education... Providing a Comfortable and Safe Educational Environment
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education has secured 11.3 billion KRW in special grants from the Ministry of Education for local education projects in the first half of 2022.
In January, the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education applied to the Ministry of Education for special grants totaling 11.03 billion KRW for six projects. This amount is 5.3 billion KRW more than the 6 billion KRW granted the previous year.
By securing the full amount requested, the Office of Education will be able to provide students with a more comfortable and safer educational environment.
When constructing or expanding school gyms, libraries, cafeterias, dormitories, etc., the Ministry of Education can specially allocate budgets.
For gymnasium projects, it is required to secure external funds such as from local governments and make matching investments.
In addition to new construction and expansion of school educational facilities, special grants can be applied for and received for school facility improvements, projects related to educational administrative and support institutions’ facilities, and regional characteristic education program projects.
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to use 2.1 billion KRW of special grants to expand the multipurpose auditorium and cafeteria at Onsan High School in Ulju-gun. It will also use 2.6 billion KRW to improve restrooms at Hwaam Elementary School in Dong-gu and Yeonghwa Elementary School in Ulju-gun. Another 2.1 billion KRW will be used to renovate the aging facilities of the Ulsan Metropolitan Student Education Center located in Ulju-gun.
The special grants for the first half of this year also include a budget of 3 billion KRW for the establishment of the Ulsan Future Education Center and 1.4 billion KRW for the (tentatively named) Children’s Reading Experience Center.
The Ulsan Future Education Center is being planned for construction on the site of the former Gangdong Elementary School in Buk-gu, Ulsan.
The site area is 10,499㎡, with a building area of 7,267㎡, consisting of a main building and library with four floors above ground. The target opening date is December 2024.
The total budget for the project, including construction costs, land acquisition, service fees, and contingencies, is 47 billion KRW. Approximately 3 billion KRW, which is 10% of the construction cost, will be supported by Ulsan City under an agreement.
The Children’s Reading Experience Center will be created by remodeling the Donghae Branch School in Dangsa-dong, Buk-gu, Ulsan. The target opening date is March 2024.
The Reading Experience Center will include a library, reading experience rooms, and a book caf? in the main building, and an ecological forest, natural playground, and book camping bungalows outdoors.
