View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) is strengthening technological cooperation with Babcock, the world's leading maritime defense industry company that developed the British aircraft carrier 'Queen Elizabeth' and other naval vessels. Through this, DSME plans to contribute to enhancing the combat capabilities of the Republic of Korea Navy.
On the 15th, DSME announced that it signed a 'Strategic Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Technology Development in the Naval Vessel Business Sector' with Babcock. The signing ceremony was attended by about 10 officials, including Yoo Sujun, Executive Director of DSME's Special Ship Business Division, Clinton Bixter, Vice President of Babcock Korea, and Colin Crooks, British Ambassador to Korea. Through the agreement, the two companies agreed to pool their core technological capabilities to strengthen competitiveness in domestic and international naval vessel projects.
According to DSME, Babcock is a company that has participated in the design and construction of world-class naval vessels, including the British aircraft carrier 'Queen Elizabeth.' It possesses world-class competitiveness in the naval vessel business sector by developing key equipment for surface ships and submarines. In addition, based on its expertise in defense engineering, Babcock has experience participating in various maritime projects, providing the best engineering solutions to customers worldwide. Through this agreement, DSME plans to secure core technologies necessary for future naval vessel projects.
The two companies also agreed to actively integrate and utilize their technological capabilities in various special ship sectors both domestically and internationally. So far, the two companies have collaborated technologically in various naval vessel sectors, including submarines. DSME plans to concentrate its corporate capabilities based on its accumulated know-how from the largest number of naval vessel constructions in Korea and its top-tier technological expertise to achieve the Navy's mid- to long-term vision.
