Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly Member Kang Cheol-woo Declares Withdrawal from Local Election... "Will Shake It Off and Meet Residents as a Private Citizen"
Wrapping Up 12 Years of Legislative Activity, "I Will Step Down Decisively"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] “I ran for the residents without belonging to any political party,” and “I will steadfastly uphold the steel worker, steel principles, and steel convictions without change.”
Gang Cheol-woo, a member of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Assembly, announced that he will not run in the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections.
On the 14th, through his statement of non-candidacy, Assemblyman Gang reflected on the saying, “Leave while the applause lasts,” and expressed his intention to cease legislative activities.
He looked back on his activities since he declared his candidacy 12 years ago, such as working as a summer vacation sanitation worker and collecting garbage, and repairing roads damaged by the monsoon with road maintenance workers.
He also recalled campaigning while riding a bicycle wearing a doll costume to foster a clean election culture, and modifying a small car for election canvassing.
He said that enacting ordinances to promote welfare for the disabled, experiencing horseback riding with disabled children, and participating in family camps were the most fulfilling moments.
Assemblyman Gang Cheol-woo was elected as an independent member of the 6th Geochang County Council in Gyeongnam, served as the vice chairman of the 7th Geochang County Council in the first half, and has been serving as a member of the 11th Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly since 2018.
Although he expressed regret in stepping down from his position as an assemblyman, he emphasized that he would “step down refreshingly” while conveying trust toward younger politicians.
