Yoon's Side to Announce Transition Committee Chair This Afternoon... Aiming to Appoint 24 Members This Week (Comprehensive)
Originally Scheduled for 11 AM but Postponed to Afternoon... Announcement Expected as Early as 2 PM, No Later Than 3 PM
[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Boryeong] The team of President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol will announce the appointments of the chairman and vice chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee (Transition Committee) on the afternoon of the 13th. Along with this, they plan to complete the appointments of 24 transition committee members as early as this week.
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for President-elect Yoon, held a briefing at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the morning of the same day, stating, "We will announce the appointments (of the chairman and vice chairman) as soon as they are finalized this afternoon," and added, "Our goal is to publicly disclose all 24 transition committee members as early as this week."
The announcement of the chairman and vice chairman is expected to be made as early as 2 p.m. or by 3 p.m. at the latest on the same day. It was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. but was postponed due to last-minute coordination of appointments. Spokesperson Kim explained, "We wanted to announce it as soon as possible, but if the chairman is decided, it seems appropriate to announce the chairman's appointment along with the planning and coordination subcommittee secretary and transition committee members. For that reason, we set the time for the afternoon."
The appointments announced that day are expected to include a total of five people: the chairman, vice chairman, the planning and coordination subcommittee secretary, and two committee members. It has been reported that Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People Party, has been nominated as chairman. The vice chairman position is said to be contested between Kwon Young-se and former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong, both from the People Power Party.
The verification process for the 24 transition committee members is expected to gradually begin. Spokesperson Kim said, "We are receiving information about the appointments, but since it has not been long since the election, the transition committee members will be announced sequentially as the recommendation and verification processes are completed."

Regarding concerns that the rapid pace of appointments may lead to insufficient verification, Kim emphasized, "I want to promise that the verification process will be more thorough and intense than ever before," adding, "We reject secretive appointments and aim to provide reassurance to the public based on ability and competence. We will not engage in superficial appointment shows but will take a serious and straightforward approach."
