3 Injured in Fire at Large Bucheon Shopping Mall... Extinguished in 2 Hours
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] A large fire broke out on the 12th at a large shopping mall in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, prompting the fire authorities to issue an alarm, and it was completely extinguished after 2 hours.
According to the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters, a large fire broke out around 4:04 a.m. at the NewCore Outlet complex shopping mall building located in Sang-dong, Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
As a result of the fire, 2 people inhaled smoke, and 1 person was injured in the wrist after falling while evacuating. Also, parts of the 3rd and 4th floors of the 9-story building were burned, and 10 people inside the building, including the basement, evacuated.
The 3rd floor of the NewCore Outlet building houses a hospital and clothing stores, while the 4th floor has restaurants and a cultural center. Attached to the back is the Bucheon Intercity Bus Terminal building.
The fire authorities issued a 'Response Level 1' alarm at around 4:13 a.m., 9 minutes after the fire broke out, and raised it to 'Response Level 2' 17 minutes later to carry out firefighting operations.
Response Level 1 involves the full deployment of personnel from the jurisdictional fire station, while Response Level 2 is an alarm level that mobilizes personnel and equipment from 5 to 6 neighboring fire stations.
The fire authorities controlled the large flames and completed initial firefighting around 5:27 a.m., and all response levels were lifted.
Subsequently, the fire was completely extinguished at 6:06 a.m., 2 hours and 2 minutes after the fire started. A total of 41 pieces of equipment, including unmanned water cannon vehicles and pump trucks, and 99 firefighters were deployed at the fire scene that day.
When the fire broke out, fire facilities such as sprinklers and firewalls installed inside the building reportedly operated properly.

The fire authorities estimate that the fire started on the terrace of the 4th floor of the NewCore Outlet building and spread to the 3rd floor, and they plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire.
