Over 1.31 Million Home Treatment Nationwide... PCR Test Positivity Rate 62.2%
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As analyses suggest that the COVID-19 outbreak has reached its peak, nearly 300,000 new confirmed cases were reported again on the 11th. With the rapid surge in confirmed cases, deaths and critically ill patients are also increasing quickly, bringing the total death toll close to 10,000.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on this day, 282,987 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total cumulative cases to 5,822,626.
The number of new confirmed cases decreased by 44,556 from the previous day's 327,543 cases (corrected from 327,549), dropping below 300,000 for the first time in three days, but it remains the third highest figure following the 9th and 10th. The decrease in cases within a day is attributed to a reduction in testing on the previous day, which was the 20th presidential election day.
Compared to a week ago on the 4th (266,847 cases), the new cases increased by 1.1 times, and compared to two weeks ago on the 25th of last month (165,889 cases), it increased by 1.7 times. As the outbreak has entered the peak phase, the rate of increase has somewhat slowed.
The number of deaths due to COVID-19 on the previous day was 229, setting a new record high again. The previous record was 216 deaths on the 5th, so this is 13 more. Accordingly, the cumulative death toll has risen to 9,875, nearing 10,000. The cumulative fatality rate stands at 0.17%.
The number of critically ill patients increased by 3 from the previous day, totaling 1,116. As of midnight on this day, the nationwide COVID-19 severe bed occupancy rate was 61.5% (1,693 out of 2,751 beds in use), up 0.4 percentage points from the previous day’s 61.1%. The occupancy rate in the metropolitan area is 57.3%, while the non-metropolitan area has a higher rate of 71.7%.
The number of patients under home treatment was 1,318,051, an increase of 23,378 from the previous day’s 1,294,673. Among them, 196,177 are in the intensive management group, including those aged 60 and over, who receive health monitoring from home treatment management medical institutions, while the rest are in the general management group managing their health independently at home.
