On the 9th (local time), the New York Post reported, "A Canadian elite sniper using the alias Wali has expressed his intention to participate in the Ukraine war," adding, "As he is considered one of the world's best snipers, he will be a significant asset to Ukraine's forces."
On the same day, Wali expressed his determination to join the Ukraine war in an interview with CBC Canada. He said, "In the 21st century, an absurd situation has occurred where people are bombed simply for choosing Europe over Russia," and stated, "I absolutely cannot agree with Russia's invasion of Ukraine."
He continued, "After hearing about the war, I naturally thought we had to help Ukraine," and added, "I gathered with my comrades to join the Ukrainian volunteer forces."
Wali said that when he arrived in Ukraine, he received a warm welcome from Ukrainian soldiers, reporting, "The Ukrainian soldiers treated us like family. They seemed very happy that we joined them."
He also said, "Until just a week ago, I was working on programming at a company, and now I find it hard to believe that I am holding weapons here to annihilate Russian forces," emphasizing, "It is brutal, but this is reality, and I will do my best to help Ukraine."
However, he expressed regret, saying, "I am sorry that I cannot be by the side of my son, who just celebrated his first birthday, and my family," and added, "I plan to return to my family once all missions are completed."
