Yoon Seok-yeol: "I will visit the President soon"... Blue House: "Let us know a convenient day, and we will accommodate"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] A meeting between President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol and President Moon Jae-in appears to be imminent. On the 10th, President-elect Yoon said, "I think I should visit the President in the near future," and President Moon responded, "Since you are busy as the President-elect, please give me a convenient day, and I will adjust accordingly." During the conversation, remarks were made that effectively confirmed the appointment of Jang Je-won, known as a so-called 'Yoon core insider,' as Chief of Staff.
On the same day, President-elect Yoon met with Yoo Young-min, Presidential Chief of Staff, and Lee Cheol-hee, Senior Secretary for Political Affairs at the Blue House, at the People Power Party central office in Yeouido, where they had this discussion. President-elect Yoon mentioned his earlier phone call with President Moon, saying, "I told him that I would meet the President as soon as possible and contact him again if there was anything I did not know." In response, Chief Yoo said, "(Before the inauguration) there may be urgent matters that require consultation between the President and the President-elect, so the Blue House can use the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs as a channel, like a hotline, for such communication."
Chief Yoo and Senior Secretary Lee personally brought a flower pot with a card that read "Congratulations on your election" to the People Power Party office. This meeting was arranged at the request of the Blue House. Chief Yoo greeted President-elect Yoon with congratulations.
Chief Yoo also conveyed President Moon's requests regarding state affairs. He said, "During the government transition period, I hope you prepare well without any gaps in governance and proceed smoothly," adding, "Even before the transition committee is formed, if there are important situations where you need assistance, please let us know. We will fully cooperate with you on that."
On this day, President-elect Yoon also referred to Representative Jang Je-won as the "President-elect’s Chief of Staff." Addressing Senior Secretary Lee, he said, "Would it not be possible for our President-elect Chief of Staff Jang Je-won and you, Senior Secretary, to communicate?" suggesting the appointment of Representative Jang as Chief of Staff.
