View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Tae-min Ryu] Samsung C&T’s Interfloor Noise Research Institute will introduce its self-developed top-grade technology for blocking interfloor noise performance starting in the second half of this year.
Samsung C&T Construction Division announced on the 10th that it has independently developed a top-grade technology for blocking heavy impact noise and obtained certification from a nationally accredited testing agency. The top-grade performance for blocking heavy impact noise is awarded when the noise transmitted to the lower floor is 40 decibels (dB) or less, meaning the strong impact noise from the upper floor is difficult to perceive on the lower floor.
Notably, the floor impact noise blocking technology developed this time is significant because it was verified through demonstration at the actual Ramian construction sites under progress, rather than just laboratory measurements.
Samsung C&T conducted verification by trial-applying the newly developed technology at Ramian construction sites in Gangnam, Seoul, and Busan, and received official top-grade certification for four heavy impact noise blocking technologies from the nationally accredited testing agency, Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL).
Generally, disputes between households caused by interfloor noise are due to heavy impact noise. Samsung C&T has been focusing on increasing the weight of the floor mortar layer and enhancing the shock absorption capacity of cushioning materials to solve this issue through various technological research efforts.
Samsung C&T plans to actively apply the certified technologies on-site by pursuing grade recognition from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport designated accreditation bodies. Through this, they also plan to prepare for the interfloor noise post-verification system scheduled to be implemented from August this year. The interfloor noise post-verification system is a revision of the existing pre-approval system, which evaluated interfloor noise blocking performance in laboratories before construction, and now evaluates the blocking performance after construction.
A Samsung C&T official stated, “Since the interfloor noise post-verification system will be implemented from August, we will actively propose and negotiate technologies for newly launched projects, and plan to apply the newly developed technologies as early as the second half of this year.”

Meanwhile, Samsung C&T is preparing to open ‘Ramian Goyo安 LAB,’ the largest interfloor noise specialized research facility in Korea, next month. Through this, they plan to introduce groundbreaking interfloor noise reduction technologies by conducting research across various fields including structural types, materials, and construction methods. They also plan to open the facility to external research institutions to promote industry-academia cooperation for solving interfloor noise problems.
