Yeosu Coast Guard Engages in Transporting Ballot Boxes for the 20th Presidential Election in Island Areas
Transport and Escort Support for 11 Ballot Boxes in 10 Book Areas
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Yeosu Maritime Police Station in Jeollanam-do announced on the 8th that it will undertake the mission of transporting and safely escorting ballot boxes in the island areas of Yeosu related to the 20th presidential election.
According to Yeosu Maritime Police, to ensure the smooth progress of the election in the island areas on March 9, four patrol vessels will be deployed to directly transport four ballot boxes from three island areas, and provide safe escort support for civilian transport vessels carrying ballot boxes from seven other island areas.
The Maritime Police will form and operate a situation response team until the completion of ballot box transport and escort. On election day, after voting closes around 7:30 PM, one patrol vessel will directly transport four ballot boxes from Geomundo, Chodo, and Sonjukdo islands to Baekya Port in Hwajeong-myeon, Yeosu.
Additionally, since the island areas near the mainland, such as Hwajeong-myeon and Nam-myeon in Yeosu City, will have ballot boxes transported by civilian vessels, three patrol vessels will be deployed to provide close safety escort and prepare for emergency situations.
A Yeosu Maritime Police official stated, “We plan to actively support by inspecting navigational obstacles in the transport and escort routes of island area ballot boxes in advance on election day to ensure a fair and transparent election.”
