Fraud Crime Committed Again While on Parole... 30-Year-Old Sentenced to Prison
Extorted a total of 8.7 million won from 29 people... Victims exceed 50
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Woo-seok] A man in his 30s, Mr. A, who was paroled while serving a sentence for fraud, was sentenced to prison again for committing fraud in secondhand goods transactions.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Jeong Je-min) sentenced Mr. A to 1 year and 2 months in prison on the 8th for fraud charges.
Mr. A was indicted for posting ads on several online secondhand goods trading sites from October 2019 to August 2021, claiming to sell gaming computers, golf and fishing equipment, and then taking money from people who contacted him without delivering the goods.
He reportedly extorted a total of approximately 8.7 million KRW from 29 people by promising to send items via courier after advance payment. The actual number of victims is said to exceed 50.
Mr. A had previously served a sentence for similar crimes. It was confirmed that he committed these offenses again while on parole.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering that he committed the crime again while on parole during imprisonment for similar offenses, and that the victims want punishment," but also noted, "Considering that he has made sincere efforts to compensate for damages, including repaying about half of the total amount of damages."
