[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT&G announced on the 8th that it will urgently provide 500 million KRW in donations to residents affected by the recent wildfires in the East Coast regions of Uljin, Gyeongbuk, and Samcheok, Gangwon.
KT&G will deliver the donations through the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association. The funds will be used for emergency housing facilities for disaster victims, restoration costs for damaged buildings, living expenses, and relief supplies support.
This donation was raised from the ‘Sangsang Fund,’ a charitable fund voluntarily contributed by KT&G employees. The Sangsang Fund is a unique social contribution fund operated by KT&G, where employees contribute a portion of their monthly salary and the company matches the same amount.
Shim Young-ah, Head of KT&G’s Social Contribution Office, said, “When employees heard the news of the extensive damage caused by the wildfires across the East Coast region, there was a consensus to help the affected residents, leading to a swift decision to provide support. We will continue to pay close attention to the wildfire-affected areas and strive to offer assistance through various means.”
