Andong, Stretching Out as a Green Healing City Embracing Nature
‘Creating a Green Healing City’ to Achieve Comfortable and Healthy Green Welfare
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Andong City has embarked on realizing a green city where people and nature coexist by expanding green spaces within the urban area and creating forest trails and small parks.
The city is expanding parks that will serve as resting places for urban residents. A scenic plaza equipped with a performance stage and sculptures will be established at the Taesamyo area with an investment of 5.7 billion KRW.
The Nakdong Park development project has also taken its first step. So far, 3 billion KRW has been secured for land acquisition, and an additional 14.6 billion KRW will be invested by 2025 to proceed with further purchases. The site of Taehwabong Neighborhood Park, beloved by citizens, will also be acquired and transformed into a leisure and relaxation space.
Near the Andong City Children's Library, a forest experience center for young children will be created. Covering an area of 10,000㎡ within the Jeongsang Residential District Park, it will be developed with a budget of 200 million KRW. Outdoor experiential learning facilities such as spider web play, log crossing, as well as evacuation sites and safety equipment will be installed.
For the development of Songhyeon 2nd Park, 11.2 billion KRW has been invested to acquire land corresponding to 87% (61,092㎡) of the total planned area. The acquisition will be completed within this year, and full-scale project implementation will begin next year.
The Green Experience Park within the Agricultural Technology Center, a favorite spot for family outings, will also be renovated. With an investment of 600 million KRW, resting areas, small animal experience zones, children's playgrounds, health walking trails, and parking lots will be created to establish a healing space for urban residents. Inside the Gyeongsangbuk-do Independence Movement Memorial Hall, an outdoor garden with a story themed on the independence movement will be developed with a budget of 500 million KRW.
Small parks will also be expanded in suburban areas such as Waryong-myeon and Nokjeon-myeon, as well as around the new town. A small park will be constructed in Seoji-ri, Waryong-myeon, where leftover space was created due to the linear improvement project of National Road No. 35.
Trekking courses that allow people to be close to nature will also be expanded. This project connects Baekdudaegan and Munsujimaek behind the provincial government new town, and this year, with an investment of 300 million KRW, a 22.5 km trail will be connected from Baekbonghyeon to Danggogae and from Hakgasan to Geumgyesan in Yeongju.
