Renault Samsung XM3 Developed in Korea Receives Top Award from French Specialized Media

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 7th that the compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) XM3, sold in Europe under the name Renault Arkana, received the top award at this year's Car of the Year ceremony hosted by a French automotive media outlet. The key developers of the XM3 working at Renault Samsung Motors' Central Research Institute received the award.
The Lagace Trophy ceremony, hosted by the French automotive media Lagace, marked its 29th edition this year. Journalists from several major French media outlets evaluate vehicles by segment and select the overall top award, the Voiture de Lagace (Lagace Car) award, as well as winners in each category. The XM3 ranked first in the 2022 Voiture de Lagace and in the Compact SUV and MPV categories.
The XM3 received a total of 45 points for its spacious interior, configuration, Renault's unique hybrid technology, and pricing. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, a compact executive sedan, scored 44 points, and the Tesla Model Y scored 42 points, ranking second and third respectively. Kia EV6 and Toyota Yaris Cross tied for fourth place. Since its launch in Europe in June last year, the XM3 has received favorable reviews locally, winning Car of the Year and Company Car of the Year awards in Spain and Slovenia last year. A total of 56,717 units were exported last year, and 14,530 units were shipped in the first two months of this year.

The trophy from this ceremony was delivered to Renault Samsung Motors' Central Research Institute, which led the vehicle's development. At the trophy presentation ceremony held on the 4th, key developers including Renault Samsung President St?phane Deblaise, Research Institute Director Choi Seong-gyu, Purchasing Headquarters Director Hwang Gap-sik, and Quality Headquarters Director Baek Ju-hyung attended, and the trophy was received by Director Park Sang-geun, who oversaw the vehicle development.
