Jeonbuk Province Proposes 1-Year Postponement of the '2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree'!

[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 7th that the ‘2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree Organizing Committee’ has decided to propose a one-year postponement of the Saemangeum Jamboree, scheduled to be held in August 2023, to the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

If the Organizing Committee proposes the postponement of the Saemangeum Jamboree, the decision on whether to postpone will be made at the World Organization of the Scout Movement board meeting scheduled for April.

This postponement proposal comes as the spread of Omicron has worsened the COVID-19 situation domestically and internationally, increasing uncertainty. Many quarantine experts predict that it will take some time until global stabilization is achieved. Holding the World Jamboree next year would face restrictions on participation by youth from various countries due to vaccine inequality between nations, and the program activities of the World Jamboree would inevitably be curtailed, making a successful event difficult.

The Organizing Committee explained that to create a successful Jamboree where youth from around the world can come together in a more stable situation, such as after overcoming the COVID-19 situation, it is necessary to postpone the World Jamboree, originally scheduled for August next year, by one year and hold it in August 2024.

If the World Jamboree is postponed by one year, the Pre-Jamboree, scheduled for August this year as a preliminary inspection of the World Jamboree, will also be postponed by one year to August 2023, considering the current COVID-19 situation.

A Jeonbuk Province official said, “If the postponement is confirmed according to the decision of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, we plan to closely cooperate with related organizations to make it a successful Jamboree of recovery and hope, where youth?the hope of humanity?from all over the world can participate together in Saemangeum,” and added, “We hope the Saemangeum Jamboree will be a turning point signaling that the whole world has overcome COVID-19 and regained normal daily life.”
