Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop Appeals for Participation in Presidential Election Voting on the 9th
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju Metropolitan City, appealed for participation in the 20th presidential election voting.
On the 7th, through a public appeal to citizens, Mayor Lee said, "In the early voting held over two days on the 4th and 5th, our city's turnout rate was 48.27%, which is 11.34 percentage points higher than the national turnout rate of 36.93%," and added, "I sincerely thank all the citizens who actively participated in early voting despite the severe situation of COVID-19."
He continued, "The essence of politics is to play the role of an angel wiping away the tears of the disadvantaged, but in reality, politics often appears as a devil that makes good people suffer through all kinds of collusion and unfairness," emphasizing, "Angel-like politics is only realized when voters, as the owners of the country, actively vote to judge right from wrong."
He further stated, "Dosan Ahn Chang-ho said, 'Those who participate are owners, and those who do not are guests,' and Abraham Lincoln said, 'Voting is stronger than bullets,'" asserting, "We must have a sense of ownership and elect good leaders through active voting for the history of the Republic of Korea to advance and for Gwangju to develop."
