Visa and MasterCard Followed by American Express Halts Operations in Russia
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Following Visa and Mastercard, American Express also announced on the 6th (local time) that it will suspend operations in Russia, which invaded Ukraine.
According to the economic media CNBC, American Express confirmed the suspension of operations, stating, "One of our company's values is 'doing the right thing'." Accordingly, American Express cards issued by Russian banks can no longer be used overseas. Operations will also be suspended in Belarus, which helped facilitate the invasion of Ukraine, as well as in Russia.
This is a measure following those taken by Visa and Mastercard.

American Express also confirmed that it has ceased business with Russian banks subject to sanctions by the United States and other Western countries.
