To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only a minimal number of people attended the ceremony, including President Jaeyong Lee, Medical Director Jongyeon Kim, Nursing Director Bokhee Jeong, Nursing College Alumni President Kyunghwa Lee, Dean Heejung Jang, faculty members, and the pledging students. The event was also broadcast live using the Zoom system.
The Nightingale Pledge Ceremony is a ritual where nursing students, after completing two years of basic theoretical education, inherit the noble spirit of service of Nightingale and pledge their mission as professional nurses before starting clinical practice.
This ceremony began with 201 third-year nursing students (176 female students and 25 male students) receiving the candlelight from their seniors.
The participating students pledged through the oath to emulate Nightingale's sacrifice and noble spirit, fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of nurses and carrying out righteous and devoted nursing activities.
After the "Nightingale Pledge Ceremony," the nursing students will take their first steps as future professional nurses through full-scale clinical practice conducted from the first semester of their third year to the second semester of their fourth year.
President Jaeyong Lee said, "Remembering Nightingale's spirit of sacrifice, I hope you will strive to protect patients' lives on the front lines of healthcare," and added, "Even if you face various difficulties during clinical practice, I support you to overcome them and return healthy."
