[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed for support by visiting the online community 'Yeoseong Sidae' (YeSi), which has 820,000 active members. 'YeSi' is the largest women's online community in Korea, and it appears that the candidate posted to gain the support of women voters.
On the 4th, Lee posted a message titled "Hello YeSi members. I am Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate" on 'YeSi.' He began by saying, "All citizens are struggling due to COVID-19. Especially women continue to suffer from the double hardship of structural social discrimination and anxiety."
He continued, "Now, political behavior that stirs up gender conflict and makes both women and men suffer must disappear," adding, "A society where everyone is respected as a citizen of the Republic of Korea and can live together must be created."
Lee also said, "I think many of you have been very disappointed by the low-level behavior shown by the political world, which has betrayed your will. I, too, as a candidate, feel very sorry and regretful," and promised, "I will fix it. I will try."
He stated, "I cannot claim to be a dignified candidate, but the dream I have is for Korea to lead the future and become a respected country," emphasizing, "At least a life where people feel safe, have fair opportunities to pursue their dreams, and can place hope in the future. The life I want to create in Korea is not much different from the life YeSi members desire."
He then introduced pledges including ▲enactment of a law punishing dating violence ▲nationwide expansion of one-stop support centers for digital sex crime victims ▲significant strengthening of penalties for sex crimes ▲introduction of a solidarity relationship registration system.
He appealed, "I was once a poor boy worker with nothing, but I have grown this much thanks to your support, criticism, and encouragement," adding, "Everything is thanks to the people. Please give me the opportunity to work for the people so I can return the love you have given me."
Meanwhile, through his YouTube channel 'Jaemyung's Small Theater,' Lee also told YeSi members, "I, Lee Jae-myung, will definitely create a country where women are not discriminated against, where this structural gender equality issue is resolved, and where everyone is safe and happy. Please help a lot."
Meanwhile, since last year, Lee has been posting on various online communities such as Bobae Dream, Ddanzi Ilbo, DC Inside, and Clien.
On the 28th of last month, he also posted on the board of '82cook,' a mom cafe with a pro-Moon Jae-in (Chinmun) tendency.
