POSCO Technical College Holds 2022 Academic Year Entrance Ceremony
Selected 40 Candidates Through Admission Process... Training Advanced Steel Technicians with Both Theory and Practice
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] POSCO Technical University (Dean Jung Tae-hyung, Director of Human Resources and Culture) held the 2022 academic year entrance ceremony on the 3rd and embarked on training advanced steel technology professionals.
The entrance ceremony, conducted by remotely connecting the Gwangyang and Pohang campuses, was attended by POSCO Yang Won-jun, Head of Management Support Division, Lee Jin-su, Director of Gwangyang Steelworks, Jung Tae-hyung, Director of Human Resources and Culture, along with faculty and current students, who congratulated the new students with bouquets.
The 9th batch of new students at POSCO Technical University this year were outstanding employees recommended by on-site department heads last September based on comprehensive evaluations of work performance and growth potential. A total of 40 were selected, including 16 employees from Gwangyang Steelworks.
Since they are resuming their studies after a long time, they completed a two-month non-face-to-face pre-study and orientation program for quick academic adaptation before the semester started, and from after the entrance ceremony, they will officially undertake specialized steel technology courses.
In particular, current students are expected to receive practical educational support in various ways to overcome the difficult conditions of balancing work and study and to improve academic immersion, drawing attention.
Since last year, POSCO Technical University has been providing tablet PCs and communication expenses to students to offer a smart learning environment.
Additionally, it has enhanced effectiveness by providing opportunities for personal practical improvement through support for acquiring national technical qualifications of industrial engineer level or higher during enrollment.
Under such full educational support from POSCO Technical University, many students including the 9th batch of new students are expected not only to link what they learn at the in-house university well with the field but also to raise the company’s on-site technical skills to the next level and become core talents of the steelworks.
At the entrance ceremony, POSCO’s Yang Won-jun, Head of Management Support Division, urged, "I hope you maintain a positive mindset in everything, keep high self-esteem, and set clear goals for your university life."
Meanwhile, POSCO Technical University plans to conduct face-to-face classes under a voluntary quarantine system from the official semester start on March 3, following the 'Omicron Response 2022 Academic Year 1st Semester University Quarantine and Academic Operation Plan' distributed by the Ministry of Education.
