President Kim Chunjin Visits Farming Sites on March 11, 'Soil Day'
Kim Chun-jin, President of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), visited the Dure Hangang Producers Association, consisting of 17 eco-friendly agricultural farms located in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, on the 3rd. According to aT on the 4th, President Kim emphasized the importance of low-carbon and eco-friendly agriculture for producing safe food and preserving soil in farming sites applying eco-friendly farming methods, and explored ways to expand these efforts.
President Kim stated, "March 11 is Soil Day, and everyone is born from soil and returns to soil," adding, "Soil is the source of life and the foundation of agriculture, but it has been damaged and its value diminished through urbanization and industrialization." He continued, "Healthy food comes from healthy soil, and a healthy earth can be created," emphasizing, "I hope this serves as an opportunity for all of us to commemorate Soil Day and remember the importance of soil."

President Kim was the main proposer of the "Soil Day Establishment Act" at the National Assembly in 2013, and with the bill passing the plenary session in 2015, Soil Day was designated as a legal commemorative day.
