[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) will begin a design competition from March 3 to June 17 for the construction of the Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town around Yongmasan Station in Myeonmok-dong, which will serve as the hub for administration and welfare.
The integrated development project of Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town is a large-scale project that includes the construction of a complex building combining the community center and resident center, a youth training center, public housing, commercial facilities, and a public parking lot, linked with the redevelopment of aging public office buildings.
According to the competition details, the total planned construction cost is 204.92 billion KRW, and the design fee is 5.397 billion KRW. The winning design will be selected through a design competition review by June, and the design service will commence thereafter.
Construction is scheduled to start in 2023 and aim for completion in 2027.
The district expects that once the Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town is built, it will lead to balanced development in the Myeonmok-dong area by modernizing public facilities, expanding convenience facilities, enhancing administrative, cultural, and welfare infrastructure, and revitalizing the Yongmasan station area functions.
In particular, the project plan incorporated opinions from local residents and added equity accumulation-type sale housing, the first of its kind in Seoul. The public housing will consist of 702 units with a total floor area of 109,400 square meters.
Jungnang-gu Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi said, “Through the integrated development project of Myeonmok Administrative Complex Town, residents will be able to enjoy high-quality administrative and welfare services and cultural life through the complex space. We will continue to cooperate with Seoul City and SH Corporation to ensure the successful promotion of the project.”
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will recruit 31 tenants for the Startup Entrepreneur Rental Housing Dojeonsuk from the 14th to the 16th of this month.
Dojeonsuk is a mixed-use rental housing where one-person creative entrepreneurs (including prospective startups) can solve office and accommodation needs at once. Starting with the first branch in 2014, it has now supplied 214 units across 15 buildings. Beginning with single-room units, the 15th building supplied in 2021 (located at Bogukmun-ro 16ga-gil 31) expanded to family types (2-room, 3-room), reducing housing costs for entrepreneurs and allowing them to continue their businesses after marriage and childbirth by adapting to tenant demands.
This first half of the year, a total of 31 units (▲22 single units ▲5 couple units ▲4 family units) will be supplied, offered at prices lower than nearby rental market rates. It is expected to reduce the initial financial burden on one-person creative entrepreneurs and young startup founders affected by rising housing prices and COVID-19.
Additionally, through agreements with Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation and Seoul Small and Medium Business Administration, Dojeonsuk tenants receive not only hardware support such as office space but also software support including startup mentoring, incubating, and community collaboration.
A Seongbuk-gu official said, “Due to the impact of COVID-19, it is difficult for small and medium enterprises, especially small businesses and startups, to survive. We hope entrepreneurs moving into Dojeonsuk can save startup costs and establish a foundation to continue their businesses after marriage and childbirth. Seongbuk-gu will continue to do its best to support young people preparing for startups and small and medium venture companies, including one-person businesses.”
For detailed information on Dojeonsuk tenant recruitment, please check the Seongbuk-gu Office website or the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation website.
Geumcheon Cultural Foundation (CEO Oh Jin-yi) will hold a special lecture titled “Author, I Met You First” at Geumcheon-gu Public Siheung Library on March 25 at 2:30 PM.
In this special lecture, PD Jo Jeong-seon, author of “Retirement, I Took a Step,” will share his 27-day pilgrimage experience on the Haepalanggil trail after retirement and engage in a discussion with attendees.
Author Jo Jeong-seon retired in 2020 after 37 years as an MBC radio PD. He initially planned to trek the Camino de Santiago in Spain but was unable to due to COVID-19, so he discovered the Haepalanggil trail in Korea. The Haepalanggil trail is a 770 km route along the east coast from Busan to the Unification Observatory.
If you want to receive a message of encouragement to yourself for new days after retirement, participation in this special lecture is recommended.
Residents wishing to participate can apply from March 5 on the Geumcheon-gu Public Library website under the ‘Participation Space’ and ‘Cultural Program Application’ boards.
Twelve attendees will receive books through quizzes and events prepared by the author.
CEO Oh Jin-yi said, “We hope this will be a time to communicate with the author, who has worked on numerous broadcasts such as Lee Jong-hwan’s Disc Show and Lee Moon-se’s Starry Night, through his broadcasting and retirement stories.”
