COVID-19 Cases Hit Another Record High... Total 211,049 by 6 PM (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Ji-hwan] More than 210,000 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide in South Korea as of 6 p.m. on the 3rd.
According to the quarantine authorities, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, a total of 211,049 people across 17 cities and provinces were confirmed positive for COVID-19.
This number is 58,291 higher than the 155,386 cases reported at the same time the previous day. This is the first time the number has exceeded 200,000 during this time frame.
The number of new cases over the past week was recorded as 165,889 (February 25) → 166,201 (26) → 163,562 (27) → 139,626 (28) → 138,993 (March 1) → 219,240 (2) → 198,803 (3). Although the total daily new cases decreased from a record high of 219,240 on the 2nd to 198,803 on the 3rd, it has surged again.
On the same day, the number of new cases in the Seoul area also reached an all-time high. By 6 p.m., 52,795 people were confirmed positive, marking the first time Seoul's new cases exceeded 50,000 since the outbreak of COVID-19 in South Korea.
The number of new cases in Seoul first exceeded 10,000 on the 8th of last month, then reached 20,000 on the 17th, and 40,000 on the 22nd. It has now surpassed 50,000 in just 9 days.
As of 6 p.m. on that day, new cases were 125,279 (59.4%) in the metropolitan area and 85,770 (40.6%) in non-metropolitan areas.
