[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun District, participated in a challenge supporting the people of Ukraine on the afternoon of the 2nd at the district office's main conference room.
Previously, Seodaemun District has had ties with Ukraine in the field of lifelong learning.
In October 2019, the district, along with Melitopol City in Ukraine, received the '2019 UNESCO Learning City Award.'
In the same month, Mayor Moon personally briefed high-ranking officials from Eastern European cities, including Ukraine, who visited Korea to benchmark lifelong learning policies, and also guided them through local educational institutions.
Mayor Moon called out the names of 11 officials from six Ukrainian cities he met at the time?Kyiv (Kiyev), Lviv, Nikopol, Poltava, Melitopol, and Sumy?and said, "As citizens of the Republic of Korea who love freedom and peace, I pray for the safety and well-being of all Ukrainian people."
He also wished that the Ukrainian people would not lose hope and courage, and that darkness would soon recede from Ukraine, bringing peace.
Then, in Korean and Ukrainian, they repeatedly shouted the slogans: ▲ We support Ukraine's 'freedom' ▲ We support Ukraine's 'peace' ▲ We support Ukraine's 'people.'
Mayor Moon called for international attention and cooperation for the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine situation and nominated the following four people as the next participants in the challenge: ▲ Park Jae-beom, Mayor of Nam-gu, Busan ▲ Kim Jeong-sik, Mayor of Michuhol-gu, Incheon ▲ Han Jeong-woo, Mayor of Changnyeong County ▲ Jo Eun-ok, Director of Gyeonggi-do Peace Education Training Institute.
He also requested that the other 24 district mayors of Seoul join the challenge to pray for peace in Ukraine.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, visited the early voting station in Mullae-dong, set up for the 20th presidential election, to inspect the preparation status on site.
On that day, Mayor Chae visited early voting stations in Mullae-dong and Daerim 3-dong within the district to check the installation status of voting equipment and carefully reviewed the COVID-19 response and quarantine measures to ensure a safe election.
