Government Includes Bio in Core Materials and Components Technologies... 2.3 Trillion Won Support for R&D This Year
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The government will include new industries such as bio and environment·energy in the core strategic technologies of materials, parts, and equipment (SoBuJang) and support research and development (R&D) investments worth 2.3 trillion won.
On the 3rd, the Ministry of Economy and Finance held a meeting of the SoBuJang Competitiveness Enhancement Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki and announced the "SoBuJang Industry Competitiveness Enhancement Implementation Plan" containing these details.
First, the core strategic technologies of SoBuJang will be expanded and reorganized from the existing main industries such as semiconductors and displays to new industries such as bio and energy. For the selected core strategic technologies, R&D investments worth 2.3 trillion won will be made this year.
The scope of the "SoBuJang Cooperation Project," which supports development cooperation between demand and supply companies, will also be expanded. While the cooperation project was previously centered on 100 core SoBuJang items, it will now include key supply chain items and digital transformation items for support.
The policy fund for SoBuJang investment will also be expanded to 1.7 trillion won in the second half of this year and supplied.
In addition, 20 additional SoBuJang Excellent Companies, SoBuJang Small and Strong Companies, and SoBuJang Startups will be selected and supported this year.
This year, the SoBuJang Cooperation Project aims to approve more than 20 cases. At the meeting, five SoBuJang development cooperation projects were approved, including next-generation organic electroluminescent diode (OELD) materials currently fully imported, future mobility exterior materials, and autonomous driving robot optical parts.

Deputy Prime Minister Hong said, "Through this cooperation project, we expect about 1.5 trillion won in private investment and 1,000 new jobs to be created by 2026," adding, "If localization and import substitution are achieved for these SoBuJang items, the domestic supply chain will also be further stabilized."
