Ministry of Science and ICT Signs Metaverse Cooperation MOU with GSMA
Establishing a Foothold for the Global Expansion of K-Metaverse
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 2nd (local time) that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) to promote mutual cooperation in the metaverse sector at the 'Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022' held in Barcelona, Spain.
The GSMA includes over 750 mobile operators from more than 220 countries worldwide, including SKT, KT, and LG Uplus, and plays a role in presenting major trends and future strategies in the global mobile communications industry.
Through this MOU, the Ministry of Science and ICT will share information related to the development of Korea's metaverse ecosystem with the GSMA, and the GSMA will share Korea's cases with its global members and developers while striving to explore business cooperation opportunities. It is expected that Korea's 'metaverse territory' will expand worldwide, increasing the global growth potential of companies providing our platforms and technologies.

Minister Lim Hye-sook of the Ministry of Science and ICT stated, "It is significant that various policies and experiences based on the 'Metaverse New Industry Leading Strategy,' established by the Korean government in January, as well as innovative private business cases, spread worldwide, enabling us to lead the early-stage metaverse market." She added, "We hope that the exchange of keynote speakers at major conferences hosted by both organizations and the activation of a global cooperation network for creating new businesses among companies and specialized institutions will take place."
