SI Industry Enters '5G Teukhwamang'... LG CNS Participation
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] System integration (SI) companies have begun entering the ‘Eum5G’ specialized network service, which the government introduced last year to promote 5G mobile communication. They plan to activate business in the manufacturing sector through the 5G specialized network.
LG CNS Applies for Designated Telecommunications Business Operator
On the 3rd, LG CNS announced that it completed applications to the Ministry of Science and ICT for ‘5G mobile communication specialized network frequency allocation’ and ‘registration as a designated telecommunications business operator holding circuit facilities.’ The 5G specialized network is a customized corporate network that can implement a 5G communication network within a specific range such as factories or buildings. It uses separate dedicated frequencies (4.7 GHz and 28 GHz) rather than existing mobile communication networks.
LG CNS also completed its application to become a designated telecommunications business operator along with the 5G specialized network. Once designated, it can provide 5G specialized network services to third-party demand companies. LG CNS has previously developed smart factory businesses utilizing LG Uplus’s communication infrastructure. Through the 5G specialized network, which allows companies to build their own networks without going through mobile carriers, they can now independently launch bundled products.
Manufacturing Innovation through 5G Specialized Network
LG CNS plans to focus on accelerating digital transformation (DX) for manufacturing customers by combining 5G with smart factories. By integrating the integrated smart factory platform ‘Factoba,’ equipped with IT new technologies, with 5G technology, they will provide advanced services that overcome the limitations of existing wireless communication environments. LG CNS recently completed a 5G specialized network demonstration project targeting factory production equipment and monitoring facilities for a manufacturing company.
Samsung SDS is also preparing for the 5G specialized network. Since it has already obtained the status of a designated telecommunications business operator holding circuit facilities, it can enter the 5G specialized network business anytime once it is allocated frequencies. Samsung SDS aims to create a work environment where a central system administrator or artificial intelligence (AI) perfectly controls devices in corporate offices and factories.
Cloud Industry Also Accelerates Investment
With signs of the 5G specialized network spreading, cloud service providers are also entering the related market. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s number one cloud service provider, declared its entry into the 5G specialized network market by launching ‘AWS Private 5G’ in December last year. ‘AWS Private 5G’ is a managed service that allows companies to easily build private 5G mobile networks.
