Jeonbuk Imsil-gun, Focused Field Guidance on Chili Pepper Seedling Cultivation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, will conduct on-site technical guidance for healthy chili pepper seedling production until the 8th.
Chili pepper transplanting is carried out on clear mornings when 2-3 true leaves have developed, about 25-30 days after sowing. If transplanting is done too early, the seedlings have poor environmental adaptability after being moved, and if delayed, establishment is delayed, causing uneven growth and weakened resistance to pests and diseases. Therefore, it must be done at the proper time.
After transplanting, raise the temperature 2-3℃ higher than the sowing bed temperature to promote root establishment, then gradually lower it from 4-5 days after transplanting, maintaining about 25-27℃ during the day and 15-18℃ at night, with soil temperature managed around 18-20℃.
In particular, to produce healthy seedlings, water with lukewarm water so that it penetrates to the roots inside the pots when the temperature rises between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the seedbed should be dry and white in the evening.
In a humid environment, diseases such as damping-off and bacterial leaf spot are likely to occur, and if too dry, the soil hardens, inhibiting growth, so careful management is necessary.
If pests such as thrips and aphids occur during the seedling period, they will affect the plants even after transplanting. Therefore, it is important to remove weeds inside the greenhouse in advance to reduce the density of thrips and aphids that transmit viruses, and to control pests and diseases using registered pesticides.
A county official said, “Since chili pepper seedling production is as important as half of the farming process, we will continue to focus on on-site guidance to farmers to produce healthy chili pepper seedlings.”
