Hana Bank "First Commercial Bank to Verify Real Name with Facial Recognition... 24-Hour Account Issuance OK"
AI and Big Data-Based Solution Applied... Account Issuance Without Time Restrictions
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Hana Bank has enabled account issuance through real-name verification using only facial recognition without any time restrictions on operating hours.
Hana Bank announced on the 2nd that it has launched this 'non-face-to-face real-name verification facial authentication' service. It verifies identity by comparing the ID card photo with the customer's face using AI and big data-based facial recognition solutions.
Until now, when opening an account remotely, after verifying the authenticity of the ID card, additional authentication was required through account verification or a video call with a consultant to confirm that the ID photo matched the face. Especially, customers without an existing account could only open an account remotely during call center operating hours when video calls were available. However, with the launch of this service, accounts can now be opened 24 hours a day without time restrictions.
Additionally, AI technology that compares and verifies facial feature points from the ID photo and the customer's live face within one second has been applied to enhance security and contribute to the prevention of financial fraud. This service was previously designated as an innovative financial service by the Financial Services Commission in April of last year.
Meanwhile, Hana Bank will provide 1,000 points of 'Hana Money,' a cash-equivalent point, to customers who open accounts through 'non-face-to-face real-name verification facial authentication' on the 'Hana One Q' application during this month.
A representative from Hana Bank's Digital Experience Headquarters said, "We are the first commercial bank to introduce non-face-to-face real-name verification facial authentication technology," adding, "We will continuously expand the scope of innovative financial services based on Hana Bank's differentiated technology and infrastructure."
