Ahn Cheol-soo on 'Willingness to Meet Yoon': "Will Meet Only When There Is a Clear Agenda"
At the 3.1 Movement Anniversary Ceremony at 3 AM, Yoon's Willingness to Meet: "Willing to Meet Any Politician"
As Possibility of Meeting Expands, Clarifies "A 'Principled' Statement That I Will Meet Anyone If There Is an Important Agenda"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 1st, Ahn Cheol-soo, the presidential candidate of the People’s Party, addressed the possibility of meeting with Yoon Seok-youl, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, saying, "Anyone can meet when there is a clear agenda." Earlier in the morning, he said, "I am willing to meet with any politician," but as this statement was being expanded into the possibility of a 'dramatic meeting,' he moved to clarify.
In the afternoon, at the funeral hall of the late former Minister of Culture Lee O-ryeong, Ahn responded to additional questions about the possibility of meeting Yoon in the morning by saying, "What I meant was that anyone can meet when there is a clear agenda."
The People’s Party added, "It is a fundamental statement that anyone can meet if there is an important agenda."
Earlier that morning, after attending the 103rd anniversary of the March 1st Movement ceremony held at the National Provisional Government Memorial Hall, Ahn told reporters, when asked if he would be willing to meet if Yoon suggested it, "If politicians want to discuss important agendas, I am willing to meet with any politician."
At that time, regarding the People Power Party’s rebuttal that the national primary poll was not brought to the negotiation table, Ahn said, "Their claim that what I officially proposed was not brought to the table is an excuse that cannot be accepted." He added, "I made the proposal publicly three weeks ago. I believe that if the opposition unified candidate is selected through a legitimate process, it would be a very good way to unite all supporters." Regarding the behind-the-scenes negotiations over the weekend, he said, "I expected to hear their response about the national primary I proposed. But they did not give any answer. We only went to listen because they said they wanted to talk."
