Disney Joins Russia Sanctions... "Suspends Movie Releases in Russia"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The Walt Disney Company has decided to suspend film releases in Russia.
On the 28th of last month (local time), Disney issued a statement saying, "Considering the unjustified invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, Disney will suspend film releases in Russia."
The Ukrainian Film Academy (UFA) petitioned for an international boycott of Russian films and the film industry online last weekend.
Russia is considered an important market in the Hollywood film industry. Last year, Russia's box office revenue was estimated at $600 million (approximately 720 billion KRW), accounting for about 2.8% of global ticket sales. The Hollywood industry is reportedly expressing serious concerns about changes in relations with Russia.
