International Criminal Court Begins Investigation into War Crimes in Ukraine Conflict
Reasonable and Credible Evidence of Committing Crimes Against Humanity
[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] The International Criminal Court (ICC) has decided to launch an investigation into war crimes in Ukraine.
Karim Khan, ICC Prosecutor, stated in a press release on the 28th (local time), "We plan to begin an investigation into war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine as swiftly as possible."
The ICC is already conducting a preliminary investigation into war crimes committed during the Donbas War, where the Ukrainian government forces clashed with pro-Russian separatists in Donbas in 2014, and during Russia's forcible annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula.
Khan's statement also implies that investigations will be initiated into alleged war crimes that occurred following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In his statement, Khan said, "As the recent conflict has escalated, this investigation will include new allegations of crimes committed within Ukraine."
