Extension of Care Hours Pilot Operation at Two Woori Dongnae Care Centers in Dongjak-gu
Pilot Extension of Care Hours Begins at Two Uri Dongnae Care Centers: Dongjak 3 Branch (Sadang 5-dong) and Dongjak 7 Branch (Sadang 2-dong)... Expanded Morning and Evening Hours from March to Ease Burden on Dual-Income Families
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will pilot an extended care hours project at two Uri Dongnae Care Centers starting in March to meet the care needs of dual-income households during morning and evening commuting hours.
This project was selected after a demand survey conducted in the second half of last year through the Uri Dongnae Care Centers and review by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In Seoul, Sadang 5-dong Uri Dongnae Care Center (Dongjak Branch No. 3) and Sadang 2-dong Uri Dongnae Care Center (Dongjak Branch No. 7) were finally chosen to implement the project.
Currently, the Uri Dongnae Care Centers operate ▲weekdays from 1 PM to 7 PM during the school term ▲weekdays from 9 AM to 6 PM during vacation periods. From March to December, Dongjak Branches No. 3 and No. 7 will pilot an extended operation by 4 hours daily to cover care time gaps in the morning and evening.
During the school term, the centers will operate ▲7 AM to 9 AM ▲7 PM to 9 PM, and during vacation periods, ▲7 AM to 8 PM, extending by 4 hours daily with flexible operation based on the demand of children using the service.
This initiative is driven by the need to accommodate the commuting hours of dual-income families, expected to reduce parents' burdens and partially resolve care gaps.
Kim In-sook, Director of the Child and Youth Division, said, “Through the pilot project to extend the operating hours of the Uri Dongnae Care Centers, we will ease the burden on parents in dual-income families and continuously strive to help children grow up healthily.”
The Uri Dongnae Care Centers provide daily life support, play activities, and after-school gap care to ensure children who may face after-school care gaps can stay safely. Regardless of parents' income level, children aged 6 to under 12 can use the service for a monthly fee of 50,000 KRW or 2,500 KRW per day.
Applications can be made through the Uri Dongnae Care Portal. For more details, contact the Child and Youth Division of Dongjak-gu Office.
