Emart Leads Popularization by Selecting 'Wine of the Month' Every Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Emart, which led the popularization of the wine market by selling ultra-low-priced wines, announced on the 27th that it will continue the popularity of the heated wine market with its "Wine of the Month" recommendations.
For "warini" (wine beginners) who still have difficulty choosing wine in the popularized wine market, Emart plans to provide various information to help them advance from beginners to intermediate level.
Starting in March, Emart announced that it will select a Wine of the Month each month according to a theme and offer high-quality wines at affordable prices.
Emart plans to pilot the Wine of the Month at a total of 34 stores, including 33 stores with "Wine&Liquor" sections and the Seongsu store, and then review whether to expand the program.
The March theme is spring, and Emart will introduce a total of 10 wines, including six types of white wine that pair well with spring and are light to drink, two types of red wine, and one each of sparkling and ros? wine.
First, the "Civite Las Pinkas Ros?," which has a pale pink color reminiscent of spring, will be sold at a 30% discount for 25,000 KRW. This ros? wine made from the Garnacha grape variety features aromas of strawberry, cherry, and peach at the finish, and pairs well with salmon, ros? pasta, and ros? tteokbokki.
Among the red wines, two types with relatively soft tannins, "Patrasche Bourgogne Pinot Noir" and "Hopnob Pinot Noir," will also be sold at discounts of 60% and 40%, respectively.
Additionally, six types of white wines that are light and enjoyable, such as "Moana Park Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc" and "Mud House Sauvignon Blanc," will be offered at discounts ranging from 10% to up to 45%.
Notably, among the Wines of the Month selected in March, all four Sauvignon Blanc products are from the Marlborough region of New Zealand, making them light and highly accessible in price, allowing wine beginners to enjoy them without burden.
The reason Emart is focusing on the wine market through wine recommendations and expanding wine specialty stores is that, due to changes in drinking paradigms, wine has risen beyond the nation's traditional alcoholic beverages like soju and beer to become the mainstream in the alcoholic beverage market.
According to Emart, wine sales have recorded double-digit growth rates every year from 2018 to 2021, maintaining a steep growth trend.
In particular, last year's wine sales reached 150 billion KRW, a 25% increase compared to the same period the previous year, achieving record-high sales.
Accordingly, Emart plans to add Wine&Liquor sections to more than 10 stores this year.

Myeong Yongjin, Emart's liquor buyer, said, "We planned the Wine of the Month to increase accessibility for wine beginners by providing information such as recommended food pairings and drinking temperatures, and to help consumers who want to create an atmosphere with seasonal wine purchases. We will strive to expand the base of wine as an everyday drink so that more consumers think of Emart as a wine hotspot."
