Im Chae-cheong, Publisher of Dong-A Ilbo, Appointed New President of Korea Newspaper Association
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Korea Newspaper Association announced on the 25th that it held the 60th regular general meeting and the 352nd board meeting at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, and appointed Lim Chae-cheong, publisher of Dong-A Ilbo (photo), as the 48th president of the association. His term will last until the 2024 regular general meeting.
In his inaugural speech, President Lim said, "The highest value that the Newspaper Association should pursue and the reason for the existence of the newspaper industry are freedom of the press and the public's right to know," adding, "There should be no concession or compromise regarding acts that suppress or infringe upon these."
He also added, "This year, with the new government taking office, many changes are expected in the media environment, but if member companies join hands and speak with one voice, any difficulties can be overcome," and "The association will be at the center of this."

President Lim graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in law and has served as political chief, editorial writer, editor-in-chief, and executive director at Dong-A Ilbo; executive director and CEO of Channel A; chairman of the Newspaper and Broadcasting Editors Association; and vice president of the Korea Newspaper Association.
