Sangju Rice to Appear on American Tables! ... Steady Overseas Market Entry Since First Export in 2014
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Sangju rice from Gyeongbuk has embarked on its journey to the U.S. export market.
On the 24th, the Ajagae Agricultural Cooperative Corporation in Sangju held a celebration event for the U.S. export, attended by member farmers, the export company Gyeongbuk Tongsang Co., Ltd., and Sangju city officials.
The Sangju rice set for export weighs 6 tons and is valued at approximately 15 million KRW. It is a premium rice produced in the Sabal Plain along the Nakdong River and will be sold at Korean-American marts and local markets in the U.S.
Since its first export in 2014, Sangju rice has steadily gained recognition in overseas markets, capturing consumers' tastes in North America, Europe, and Asia.
A Sangju city official stated, “We will spare no administrative support to ensure Sangju rice is recognized as high-quality rice and can secure competitiveness in overseas markets.”

Last year, Sangju city exported 53 tons of rice, earning approximately 170 million KRW in foreign currency. This year, they are accelerating exports with a target of 200 million KRW.
