Jeongeup-si Installs Free Public Wi-Fi... Leading the Way in Realizing Communication Welfare

[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is taking the lead in realizing communication welfare by significantly expanding free public Wi-Fi to reduce citizens' communication costs and enhance information accessibility.

The city announced on the 25th that since 2018, it has been installing public Wi-Fi in multi-use facilities such as government offices, welfare facilities, cultural and tourist sites, and transportation facilities, and currently operates 360 wireless internet APs at a total of 126 locations.

In the first half of this year, with a budget of 60 million won secured, the city plans to install 15 wireless APs by May in frequently used areas by citizens, including the Saemgol Bridge to Juklim Bridge section, Dalha Bridge to Gonggam Plus Center section, and the tennis and jokgu courts within the Comprehensive Stadium.

In the second half, the city plans to apply for the wireless infrastructure construction project promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and install additional wireless APs at about 10 locations, including Jeongeup Landfill Sports Park (baseball field).

The public Wi-Fi construction project has become a key pillar of digital communication and the activation of non-face-to-face services, which have become important after COVID-19.

By sharing various information for free, it also has the effect of reducing communication costs and has received high praise from not only citizens but also many tourists.

A city official said, “We will continue to expand service areas through demand surveys so that more citizens and visitors to Jeongeup can enjoy convenient information and communication services, creating a smart digital environment.”
