[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former district mayors running in the upcoming by-elections for National Assembly members, held alongside next month's presidential election, have reported substantial assets.
On the 25th, according to the February interim asset registration details for high-ranking public officials disclosed by the Government Ethics Committee for Public Officials, Kim Young-jong, former mayor of Jongno District who stepped down in November last year, reported assets worth 17.734 billion KRW.
Kim, who is running as an independent after the Democratic Party of Korea decided not to nominate a candidate, declared ownership of buildings valued at approximately 8.187 billion KRW, including a neighborhood living facility in Hongji-dong, Jongno District (7.829 billion KRW). He also holds 14,600 unlisted shares of Jungwon Comprehensive Architectural Office, which he founded, under his name, and 1,200 shares under his spouse's name. These shares collectively are valued at 8.612 billion KRW.
Jo Eun-hee, former mayor of Seocho District running in Seoul under the People Power Party, reported assets worth 4.341 billion KRW. Jo owns buildings valued at a total of 5.748 billion KRW, including a multi-family house in Bangbae-dong, Seocho District (1.475 billion KRW) jointly owned by her spouse and eldest son, and a neighborhood living facility under her spouse's name (2.157 billion KRW).

She also holds debts amounting to 3.47 billion KRW, including financial liabilities and rental deposits.

Additionally, Park Won-joo, Senior Secretary for Economic Affairs at the Presidential Office, reported assets worth 4.36 billion KRW, including an apartment in Banpo-dong, Seocho District (1.646 billion KRW). Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, declared assets worth 384 million KRW, including a detached house in Paju, Gyeonggi Province (760 million KRW) and financial liabilities (507 million KRW).
